Training the Decision, Not Just the Skill: Improving Threat Recognition and Response
Saturday 05 Dec / 8:00 AM / Lieutenant, Cobb County Police Department, Marietta, Georgia
The session
Pre-assault indicators are usually taught in a classroom as isolated cues, and weapon presentation is trained statically off an audible stimulus, so officers never learn to couple the two. Using blank-firing simulation pistols, this session trains threat perception and firearm access together, treating suspect movement as actionable rather than descriptive. The approach draws on Left of Bang and recognition-primed decision making, and scaffolds out to cover, team movement, and crossfire considerations.
